XTrail transmission emergency mode

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2012 Nissan XTrail diesel. The transmission indicator light and check engine light both came on, and the gearbox is acting up big time! It's gone into emergency mode, doesn't shift right, slips sometimes, and even makes grinding noises! I checked the error memory and it has an error logged related to radiator oil pressure. Could a defective radiator cause all of these symptoms? My XTrail has over 217000 km. I checked the coolant level, which is okay, and I don't see any obvious leaks, but I'm worried!

Summary of the thread

The 2012 Nissan XTrail experienced transmission issues, including emergency mode activation, improper shifting, slipping, and grinding noises, with error codes related to radiator oil pressure. A potential cause was identified as a defective radiator, but further investigation revealed a corroded plug on the radiator. Cleaning the plug resolved the problem, restoring normal transmission function.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds nasty! I had something similar happen with my XTrail a while back. Is the error message specifically pointing to a sensor or something related to the radiator coolant and the transmission? I would check the cable connections of the component! That was the cause of my issues at the time, and it was cheap to fix.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check the cable connections first thing tomorrow. Just to be sure, was your XTrail also going into emergency mode and having all those shifting problems? What exactly was the error message you were getting?

Yep, emergency mode, the whole shebang! Check your connections, but if that doesn't solve it, it might be time to bite the bullet and get it checked out by a workshop. Don't drive it too much in that state, or you'll risk wrecking your transmission completely.

You were spot on! It was a corroded plug on the radiator. Cleaned it up, and everything is working perfectly again! Cost me just 95€ at the workshop. Thanks a lot for the help; you saved me a ton of money and stress!
