Yaris ABS Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Toyota Yaris diesel is experiencing ABS lamp illumination and traction problems, indicating a failure in the ABS system. A basic diagnostic points to a speed signal fault but doesn't specify the exact issue. The problem could be due to a defective ABS control unit, which can cause such symptoms. A more in-depth diagnostic at a workshop confirmed the control unit was faulty, leading to its replacement and resolution of the issue.

Thanks for the reply! The diagnostic was pretty vague, just flagged the speed signal input as malfunctioning. It didn't pinpoint a specific sensor or the control unit itself. Could a defective control unit really cause all these symptoms?

Yeah, a defective control unit can definitely cause those symptoms. ABS systems are complex, and if the unit isn't processing the speed signals correctly, it can trigger all sorts of warnings and malfunctions. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop for a more in-depth diagnostic. They'll be able to isolate the fault for sure.

Thanks a lot for your help and advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – turns out the ABS control unit was defective. Repair cost me around 1000€ but at least it's sorted now.

Hey, I've got a Yaris too. Your problem sounds familiar. Did the diagnostic say anything specific about which sensor might be at fault? Or maybe the control unit?
