Yaris Audio System Failure

I've got a 2014 Toyota Yaris hybrid with about 113,000 km on it. Recently, the audio system just completely died on me. No sound, no radio, nothing. The screen is blank. I've checked the fuses and haven't found anything blown. I even tried disconnecting the battery for a bit to see if it would reset, but no luck. The dealership says there's an error stored in the error memory, and they're leaning towards a defective display. Anyone else experience something similar? This silence is deafening!

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Toyota Yaris hybrid owner reports a complete failure of the audio system, with no sound or display, despite checking fuses and attempting a battery reset. The dealership identified an error in the system's memory, suggesting a defective display as the likely cause. Another owner with a similar issue confirmed that replacing the display resolved their problem, indicating that this might be the necessary solution for the current situation.

I have a Yaris and I had a similar issue a while back. It started with intermittent crackling from the speakers, especially when the car was cold. Then the audio quality just went downhill fast, like listening to music through a tin can. Eventually, the whole system went silent, just like yours. Did you notice any static noise or distortion before it completely quit?

Thanks for the reply! No, no static or crackling that I recall. It just went completely silent one day. The dealership is quoting me an arm and a leg to replace the display. Is there anything else that I could check, or am I stuck with biting the bullet and paying for the repair?

In my case, the problem was indeed the display unit itself. Toyota's infotainment systems can be as temperamental as a toddler who skipped their nap. The diagnostics pointed to an internal fault within the display, and replacing it was the only permanent solution. I hate to say it, but the dealership is probably right. It's possible to delve into faulty wiring and connections, but if they found a stored error and are confident in their diagnosis, you might be saving yourself time and frustration by just letting them handle it. In the end my bill was 725€.

Appreciate the insight! Sounds like I'm facing the music and getting the display replaced. I was hoping it was something simpler, but it is what it is. Thanks again for sharing your experience; it helped me mentally prepare for the bill!
