Yaris Defrost Air Distribution Flap Error

I have a 2011 Toyota Yaris with a diesel engine and about 56711 km. The heating output is far lower than it should be. A diagnostic showed an error regarding the defrost air distribution flap. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar issue with my Yaris. The reduced heating and the error code for the defrost flap sound very familiar. In my case, the issue seemed to be intermittent at first, but then it got progressively worse. Have you checked the blower motor? It's responsible for pushing air through the HVAC system. If it's not working correctly, that could also contribute to the low heating output. However, since you have a specific error code for the flap, it does sound like that's the main culprit. It might also be worth checking the climate control unit itself, as that regulates the temperature and airflow. But honestly, if you are getting error messages, it is unlikely to be the blower motor.

Thanks for your quick response! You mention the blower motor and climate control unit. Do you recall if your error message specifically mentioned the defrost air distribution flap, or was it a more general HVAC error? Also, did you manage to resolve the problem yourself, or did you end up taking it to a workshop? I'm trying to decide whether this is something I can tackle myself or if I should just let a professional handle it.

To be honest, I can't remember the exact error message I was getting. It was definitely something related to the air distribution, but I don't recall if it specifically mentioned the defrost flap. And no, I didn't attempt the repair myself. I'm not very experienced with car electrics, and fiddling around with the dashboard panel seemed a bit daunting. I'd say, if you're not confident in your abilities, it's probably best to take it to a workshop. They'll be able to diagnose the problem properly and fix it without causing any further damage. If it is just a plug or cable issue, it shouldn't cost that much anyway.

Thanks again for your help and advice! I think you're right; I'll take it to a workshop. Just got a quote for 95€, including VAT, for a new cable/plug, which sounds reasonable. Hopefully, that will solve the problem. It is a pity to spend money, but I don't want to risk damaging something else.
