Yaris Lighting Fault

I've got a 2004 Toyota Yaris with a gasoline engine that's giving me grief. The mileage is just shy of 100k kilometers. The lights are acting up – sometimes they switch on seemingly randomly, and I'm getting a 'fault in the lighting' error code stored in the memory. I've checked the bulbs and fuses, all seem okay. Could it be the light switch itself?

I had a similar issue with my Yaris; though I suspect it will apply to other versions than mine. Have you inspected the cable and plug connection to the light switch? A defective connection there can definitely cause intermittent faults and trigger error codes.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check that. Where exactly should I be looking? Any common problem spots to look out for on the light switch wiring?

Yes, the cable and plug connection was the cause of the issue in my case. I recommend you visit a workshop. They should have the tools to diagnose the issue properly with high probability. Moreover, you probably don't want to be messing around with electric wiring yourself.

Appreciate the advice! I took it to a local shop and they found a loose connection on the light switch, just as you suspected. They cleaned it up, re-seated the connector, and the problem is gone! Total cost was 95€ Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
