Yaris radio failure

My 2008 Toyota Yaris (gasoline engine) has a strange radio issue. The infotainment system shows an error, the audio is dead, and there's an antenna error code. Only 44672 km on the clock. Could a bad antenna really cause this?

Sounds familiar! My old Opel Astra had similar radio reception issues – tons of static, almost no FM signal. I thought it was the signal amplifier, but the antenna was the problem. Check the antenna base for corrosion or damage; it might not be obvious.

Interesting about the corrosion. I haven't checked the base closely yet, but I will. Was your Opel showing the same error message and complete audio failure as my Yaris, or just poor signal?

Exactly the same! The head unit threw an error, and the audio cut out. The radio was dead. With those symptoms and the error code, I'd bet on the antenna. A workshop can test it properly. Could be cheaper than replacing parts yourself.

Appreciate the insight! I had the Yaris checked, and you were right. The antenna was defective. The total repair cost was 255€. Thanks for the help!
