Yaris Rain Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Toyota Yaris diesel is experiencing issues with its rain-light sensor, affecting the automatic wiping mode, headlight control, speedometer dimming, and causing the lights to remain on. A potential cause identified is bubbles under the gel pad of the sensor on the windshield. The suggested solution is to replace the gel pad and recalibrate the sensor, which resolved similar issues for another owner.

Bubbles under the gel pad? I didn't think of that. How did you confirm that was the cause, and what did you do next?

Yeah, it's apparently common. I gently peeled back the sensor and saw the bubbles. Cleaning didn't help. I took it to a workshop. They replaced the gel pad and recalibrated the sensor. It's working perfectly now.

Thanks for the advice. I checked the sensor and found those bubbles. I'm taking it to a local workshop to get the gel pad replaced. The repair cost 62€.

Hey, I had a similar issue with my Yaris. The rain sensor went haywire and messed with the lights and wipers. Have you looked for bubbles under the gel pad where the sensor sits on the windshield? That was my problem.
