Yaris tailgate hall sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Toyota Yaris is experiencing an issue where the tailgate doesn't open fully, with an error pointing to the tailgate hall sensor. The problem is suspected to be related to a cable or plug issue, possibly due to wire breaks in the harness where it enters the tailgate. It is advised to have a professional inspect and repair the wiring to resolve the sensor defect.

Thanks for the tip! Yes, the error message points directly to the hall sensor in the tailgate lock. I haven't checked the harness thoroughly yet, just visually. Did you manage to fix yours yourself, or did you take it to a workshop?

While a visual inspection is a good start, it may not reveal internal wire damage. In my professional opinion, the sensor defect is most likely caused by defective wiring. I recommend that you entrust the troubleshooting to a specialist.

Okay, thanks for the advice. Sounds like I'll need to get it checked out by a pro. I appreciate the help! I will let you know what the outcome is. Workshop estimated 95€ for the repair.

I also have a Yaris and had a similar problem with the tailgate not opening properly. Was the error message specific? Did you check the wiring harness where it enters the tailgate? That area is known for flexing and causing wire breaks.
