Inside Carly’s Learning Culture
How Carly Builds a Culture of Growth Through Learning & Reflection
At Carly, learning isn’t just something that happens during onboarding or review cycles. It’s woven into our day-to-day, and especially into the intentional workshops we design to strengthen not just skills, but also mindset and culture. Over the past year, we’ve built a set of internal learning experiences focused on the soft skills that make teams thrive: clarity, communication, feedback, and safety. Here are the learning experiences that were in focus.
Fail Early: Learning Through Honest Reflection
Our “Fail Early” workshop unfolded over six weeks in 2025 with the whole company participating in small, mixed-department groups. The core idea? Identifying risks and defining goals early helps us stay aligned, focused, and ultimately more successful. Each group explored how “fail early” shows up differently across teams, from launching a new campaign to choosing the right tech architecture. During the sessions, participants worked through tailored scenarios where they had to collaboratively pinpoint the biggest risk and then outline the most effective mitigation, often uncovering prioritization insights they wouldn’t have reached alone. For many, it wasn’t just a professional lesson but something they could reflect on in their personal life as well. These kinds of reflections deepened our shared understanding: failing early isn’t about pessimism. It’s about being equipped to move forward with clarity and confidence. It also sparked new habits in how teams plan projects and communicate expectations. Today, we hear phrases like “let’s fail early on this” in daily standups, a sign that the mindset has stuck. This workshop didn’t just teach a framework; it built a shared language for risk, alignment, and trust.
Be Safe Together: What It Means to Belong
At the start of 2025, we evolved one of our core values to “Be Safe Together”- and with it came a company-wide workshop to explore what that truly means. Through powerful storytelling, we surfaced difficult workplace experiences people had faced elsewhere. It was a heartfelt moment that reminded us why safety matters, not just emotional safety, but also the sense of stability Carly provides as a company. Then, in smaller groups, we created “Safety Shields” representing what makes us feel secure at Carly, qualities like transparency, clarity, supportive feedback, personal care, and the steady foundation the company provides. Many shared how meaningful it is to work in a place where stability isn’t something they have to question, and how grateful we are that Carly is so genuinely, reliably stable that we don’t carry the quiet fear of what tomorrow might bring. The workshop closed with personal commitments to help protect and sustain the culture we care about. Because being safe together is something we all build every day, we concluded that feeling free to be ourselves with one another is what makes a team feel strong and deeply connected. When we talk about it openly and practice it together, we create a place where people aren’t just welcomed, they’re genuinely supported and looked after.
Peer-to-Peer Feedback: Growing Through Each Other's Eyes
In 2025, we also introduced our cross-functional peer-to-peer feedback framework with a series of hands-on workshops. The aim was to build a culture of honest, growth-focused feedback that strengthens performance, connection, and personal development. During the workshop, participants practiced giving feedback using different scenarios – and even gave constructive critiques to Christiano Ronaldo in a fun role play. The team now actively gives thoughtful, constructive feedback to their peers. Our feedback framework (Situation, Example, Suggestion) helps ensure the message is clear, kind, and impactful. Feedback here isn’t a judgment; it’s an investment in each other’s growth. It’s also a chance to celebrate the small moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. Since launching the practice, we’ve seen stronger collaboration across teams and more ownership in performance conversations. The process also gives every team member a channel to seek personal development by proactively asking for feedback from others. It reminds us that everyone, regardless of role or level, has something valuable to contribute to someone else’s growth.
At Carly, learning doesn’t just come from slides or speakers. It comes from listening to each other, reflecting honestly, and creating space for growth – together. These workshops are just one part of how we keep evolving as a team and as individuals. As we look ahead, we’re excited to keep learning and building new ways to grow. Because when people grow, culture grows, and that’s how we shape a workplace we’re proud of.
