2018 VW Virtus Experiencing ABS/DSC and Power Steering Malfunction: Seeking Advice

Hey! I'm getting a bit stressed about my 2018 VW Virtus (Gasoline, 47891 KM on the clock), it's been acting up recently. The ABS/DSC isn't kicking in, I've got zero power steering, and the steering wheel's shaking like a leaf on a windy day. My gut tells me it might be an Electric power steering signal issue. Had a pretty miserable experience with my last mechanic visit, and I'm trying not to walk into another disaster. Has anyone else had similar problems? What was your experience with your mechanic like? Any help is appreciated!

Hey, sounds like you're in a messy situation there. I had a similar problem with my 2015 VW Passat not too long ago. Turns out, it was indeed a rather dicey electrical power steering signal issue, just like what you suspected. The confusion started various complex symptoms that actually sprung from the defective cable connection. Explained in layman's terms, the data transmitted by the cables wasn't getting through correctly to the onboard computer. This disrupted the electronic system leading to ABS/DSC misbehaving and the shaky steering wheel. My trusted garage ran a complete diagnostic check which revealed the faulty cable connection. They had to replace some plugs as well. Speaking from the other side of this chaos, it wasn't a cake walk dealing with such an issue. But once corrected, my Passat was back to its pristine form - no shaky steering wheel, ABS/DSC perfectly working fine. Just a heads up, you're looking at some nitty-gritty electrical work. So, be mentally prepared for a good few days without your car. Good luck with it.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Shame that we have to go through this sort of thing, huh? Anyway, glad to hear your Passat's back to its best. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it end up costing you to sort the cable connection issue? And have you had any other problems related to this since it got fixed? Cheers in advance!

Hey, totally feel for you. Having your car act up is never a fun situation, right? Regarding the cost, it was a bit of a pinch to the pocket. The whole fix, which included replacing the defective plug, set me back by €155.0. Might sound steep, but trust me, it's worth every penny when you get to drive your car smoothly again. And to answer your other question, since I got that sorted, I haven't faced any electric power steering-related issues. The Passat's been behaving quite well, the steering wheel's steady, and the ABS/DSC's working as it should. No new headaches, thank goodness! Hope you manage to sort yours out without much hassle. Best of luck!

Hey, thanks again for the helpful info! €155.0 sounds reasonable enough, especially if it gets rid of these headaches. Big relief to hear it's been smooth sailing for you since the fix. I guess it's time for me to bite the bullet and hand my car over to a trustworthy mechanic. Here's hoping my Virtus gets back to its old self soon. I'll update once it's done. Until then, thanks once more!
