4Runner temperature gauge issue

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2006 Toyota 4Runner diesel. It's got about 25k km on it. Lately, I've noticed the temperature gauge acting strange, showing incorrect readings. The check engine light also keeps popping up. And to top it off, the engine seems to take ages to warm up properly. I suspect a cooling grille restriction, has anyone experienced something like that?

Hey, I drive a 4Runner too. I had similar symptoms not too long ago – the temperature fluctuations and the slow warm-up. Did you check the fuses? Is there a specific fuse for the cooling grille? What diagnostic codes is the check engine light throwing?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the fuses specifically related to the grille, to be honest I'm not even sure if there is one... I haven't had the chance to read the error codes yet either. Is it possible that the grille is really the source of the problem?

Yeah, I'd get those codes read, as this will point to the exact problem. In my case it was something similar and, in the end, I took it to a local workshop, they replaced some fuse, and everything was fine again. But check the codes first, and look for any other damages.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! I'll definitely get the error codes read and check the fuses. I appreciate the advice, and I'll probably end up taking it to the workshop if I can't figure it out myself. Turns out, the error code pointed to a defective fuse, which I got replaced for 52€. Everything's working fine now!
