A Klasse cruise control problem

My Mercedes A Klasse, a 2021 diesel with only 17849 km, has a cruise control that refuses to engage. The error memory has a fault stored. I suspect it could be a defective cable or plug connection, or the throttle position, or speed sensor, or even something to do with the steering wheel or clock spring. I'm dreading a huge bill. Has anyone had similar issues?

I had a similar issue with my A Klasse. Cruise control quit, and there was an error code. Before you dive into throttle position sensors and clock springs, have you had diagnostics done? Is the error code pointing to anything specific? Sometimes it's something simple. Have the speed sensor values been validated through live data?

The diagnostics point to a potential cable or plug issue. Before I take it in, I’m trying to understand if there's something I can check myself. I'm a bit handy. Was your issue also a cable or plug, or something more involved?

Mine was indeed a defective connector. I would have been chasing ghosts forever without a proper diagnosis. Honestly, with modern cars, poking around without the right tools can cause more harm than good. The CAN bus system is complex, and you could easily trigger more errors. I'd suggest taking it to a competent workshop. My repair was about 95€.

Thanks so much for the advice, I really appreciate it! You were spot on. I took it to a workshop. As suspected it was just a loose connector. They charged me that 95€ you mentioned. Glad it wasn't the speed sensor or anything more serious!
