A1 Oil Pressure Warning Signals Serious Engine Trouble

My 2019 Audi A1 started showing low oil pressure warnings accompanied by concerning engine noises. The warning lamp keeps lighting up even though the oil level seems fine. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? The engine makes loud mechanical noises especially when accelerating. Im worried about potential engine bearing damage if this continues. Would appreciate insights from those who had similar issues and got them fixed, particularly regarding workshop diagnosis and repair costs. What components did they end up replacing to solve the problem?

Summary of the thread

The conversation centers around a 2019 Audi A1 experiencing low oil pressure warnings and concerning engine noises, despite the oil level being normal. The symptoms suggest potential oil pump failure, as similar issues were resolved in another case by replacing the oil pump, oil filter, and performing an oil change. The erratic oil pressure readings and worsening noise, especially under load, indicate a need for immediate attention to prevent engine bearing damage. The recommended course of action is to stop driving the car, have it transported to a workshop for a complete oil pressure diagnostic, and check for oil leaks, with the expectation that early intervention could prevent more extensive repairs.

Having dealt with nearly identical symptoms on my 2017 Audi A3 last year, I can share my experience. The oil pressure warning and engine noise combination immediately points to potential oil pump issues, which was exactly what my workshop diagnosed. The symptoms started similarly, oil pressure warnings despite correct oil levels, followed by those worrying mechanical sounds during acceleration. After noticing the engine bearings could be at risk, I took it to a workshop right away. They found a defective oil pump that wasnt maintaining proper oil pressure. The repair included: Replacement of the oil pump, New oil filter (the clogged filter had contributed to the issue), Complete oil change with correct oil viscosity, System inspection for any oil leakage Total cost was 755 Euro for parts and labor. The repair resolved both the warning lights and noise issues completely. Before suggesting specific next steps, could you provide: Current mileage, Last oil change date, Type of oil currently used, Whether the noise changes with engine temperature, Any other warning lights present This information would help determine if your situation matches what I experienced and whether you might be facing the same oil pump failure.

Thanks for the details. My Audi has 49827 KM on the clock and the last service was done 3 months ago. The oil pressure gauge readings are quite erratic, fluctuating between normal and critically low, especially during acceleration. The mechanical noise gets noticeably louder when the engine is warm and under load. The service center used original synthetic engine oil as specified for the A1, and the oil level is exactly where it should be. No other warning lights are present besides the oil pressure warning. Im particularly concerned about potential engine bearing damage if I keep driving it in this condition. Since posting, the noise has actually gotten slightly worse, so Im planning to have it looked at this week. Just hoping it wont require a complete engine rebuild.

Based on what youre describing, especially the erratic pressure readings and worsening noise, this sounds nearly identical to what I experienced with my A3 before getting it fixed. The symptoms matching exactly with what I went through really points to the oil pump failing. The fluctuating oil pressure readings and increased noise under load were the key indicators my workshop pointed out. With relatively low mileage and recent service, oil quality or maintenance issues can likely be ruled out, just like in my case. While my oil pump failure was caught early enough to prevent serious engine bearing damage, the worsening noise you mentioned is concerning. My mechanic explained that inconsistent oil pressure can rapidly accelerate bearing wear, which explains the load-sensitive noise youre hearing. Given my experience, I strongly recommend: Stop driving the car immediately, Have it transported to a workshop, Request specific testing of oil pressure at different RPMs, Ask them to check for any oil leakage that could affect pressure The repair cost will likely be similar to what I paid (around 755 Euro), assuming no engine bearing damage has occurred yet. The good news is that if caught early enough, replacing just the oil pump and doing a thorough system inspection should resolve the issues completely, as it did in my case.

Thanks for sharing such detailed info about your A3 experience. The similarities to my situation are quite striking. Given all these matching symptoms, especially the erratic oil pressure readings and worsening noise, Im getting more convinced its likely the oil pump. Ive decided not to risk any further engine damage. Already arranged for a flatbed to take the car to the workshop tomorrow morning. The service advisor mentioned theyll do a complete oil pressure diagnostic test and check the entire system for any oil leakage points. Really hoping the repair stays around that 755 Euro mark you mentioned and that we caught it early enough to avoid any serious engine bearing damage. The timing seems fortunate since the noise only started getting worse recently. Will definitely ask them to test the oil pressure at various RPMs as you suggested. Its reassuring to know that replacing the oil pump resolved these exact symptoms in your case. Keeping my fingers crossed for a straightforward fix rather than anything more extensive. Thanks again for helping me understand what Im likely dealing with. Will update once I get the workshop diagnosis.
