A8 Air Suspension Failure Causing Uneven Ride Height

Just had a frustrating experience at my mechanic and now my A8 is acting up. The suspension seems off, front is sitting lower than the rear and the ride feels really bouncy. The headlights are pointing all over the place and theres a warning light on the dash. Pretty sure its related to the air suspension system or maybe a faulty leveling sensor. The control module is showing some error codes too. Running a 2022 A8 with gas engine, only 15003km on it. Anyone dealt with similar height control issues? Looking for advice before heading back to a shop.

Had the same suspension issue on my 2019 A7 Sportback. The symptoms match exactly what I experienced, uneven ride height and erratic headlight positioning. The automotive suspension system was showing multiple error codes through the control module. The root cause was a failed height sensor and damaged control rod on the front axle. The leveling system was unable to properly measure and adjust the ride height, causing the front end to drop and creating that characteristic bouncy feeling. The load sensor readings were also affected, throwing off the entire air suspension calibration. This is a serious issue that needs immediate attention as it affects vehicle stability, tire wear, and safety systems. In my case, the repair involved: Replacing the faulty height sensor unit, Installing new control rods, Recalibrating the entire leveling system, Clearing all error codes, Testing suspension through full range of motion The bouncing sensation typically indicates air springs trying to compensate for incorrect height sensor readings. Would strongly suggest having it checked at a shop that specializes in air suspension systems, as proper diagnostic equipment is essential for this repair.

Thanks for sharing that detail about your A7 experience. Dealing with a similar headache on my A8 right now, good to know the leveling sensor was the culprit in your case. The symptoms match up pretty closely with what Im seeing. Getting ready to take it to the shop and hoping the repair wont be too painful on the wallet. Do you remember roughly what you paid for the full fix? Also curious if youve had any other suspension issues pop up since the repair was done?

Good news, since taking my A7 to the mechanic, the Height control restricted warning has been completely resolved. The bouncy ride and uneven stance are also gone after they fixed the defective control rod connected to the leveling sensor. Total cost came to 110 Euro for the repair, which was actually less than expected for an air suspension related issue. The car has been running perfectly for the past 8 months with no suspension problems whatsoever. The ride height stays consistent and the headlights maintain proper alignment now that the height sensor is working correctly. Sounds like your A8 has nearly identical symptoms to what I experienced. Getting it fixed sooner rather than later is smart to prevent additional wear on other suspension components.

Thanks for the feedback. Finally got my A8 back from the shop after dealing with the suspension problems. Turns out the height sensor was completely shot, along with some worn control arms affecting the leveling system. The repair cost hit 950 Euro total, more than I hoped but worth it to get the automotive suspension working properly again. They had to replace both front height sensors and recalibrate the entire load sensing system. The bouncing is completely gone now and the car sits perfectly level. The mechanic showed me the old parts, the height sensor was badly corroded and one of the control arms had a torn bushing. No wonder the leveling system was going crazy. At least now I know what to watch for if similar issues pop up in the future. Really glad I got this sorted quickly before it caused more problems. The car rides like new again and all warning lights are cleared. Thanks for helping me diagnose the issue, saved me some diagnostic time at the shop.
