ABS Lamp and Lateral Acceleration Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2022 Fiat Cronos experiencing an ABS lamp issue and an ABS system failure, with a fault code indicating a problem with the lateral acceleration sensor. The problem could be linked to an improperly calibrated steering angle sensor, which can affect the sensor readings and lead to ABS malfunctions. The lateral acceleration sensor is typically part of the ABS control unit, and a defective control unit was identified as the root cause, requiring replacement to resolve the issue.

Thanks for the reply! Steering angle sensor calibration... that's a good question. I haven't had it done recently, or ever, actually. Would that really cause the ABS to freak out like this? Where is the lateral acceleration sensor usually located? I'm just trying to get a handle on this before I take it in.

Indeed, an improperly calibrated steering angle sensor can indirectly affect the lateral acceleration sensor readings, leading to ABS malfunctions. The lateral acceleration sensor is typically integrated within the ABS control unit. Given the symptoms and error code, a defective control unit is highly probable. A diagnostic assessment at a certified workshop is advisable to confirm the root cause.

Just got the car back from the shop. You were spot on! They confirmed it was a defective control unit causing the lateral acceleration sensor fault. Cost me about 1000€ to replace. Thanks for the help!

I encountered a similar problem with my 2018 Volvo XC60. The symptoms you describe indicate a potential issue with the lateral acceleration sensor, which is integral to the ABS and traction control systems. This sensor provides data on the vehicle's yaw rate and lateral acceleration to the control unit. Has the steering angle sensor been calibrated recently?
