ABS warning light and speedometer warning light on Renault VelSatis: Tips and experiences wanted

Hi guys, I'm a bit worried about my Renault VelSatis (gasoline, year 2007, 81049 km mileage). Lately, the ABS warning light comes on, the ABS system is not working and there is a fault stored. There is also a warning light on the speedometer. I think the problem might be related to the failure of the wheel speed sensor (ABS sensor). Has anyone had similar experiences and can perhaps give me some tips on how to proceed? I didn't have a good experience with my mechanic last time and don't want to spend money unnecessarily. Many thanks in advance!

Hey, listen, I understand what you mean. I had the same problem with my Renault Laguna (gasoline, built in 2004) some time ago. The ABS control unit was faulty, just like yours. At first I also thought it was the ABS sensor, but that's what the mechanics told me after they did a thorough check. It was quite serious and I couldn't ignore it. If the ABS warning light is on, it could indicate possible malfunctions in the braking system, which could be very dangerous. So it had to be fixed, there was no other way. It's best to have your car checked at a garage to be sure what's really going on. Maybe you'll find a better mechanic this time who will not only recognize the problem, but also fix it properly. Good luck with that, buddy!

Hey, thanks for your feedback! You seem to have gone through something similar to what I'm going through now with my VelSatis. Do you still have a ball park of what the repair cost you back then? And has anything else happened since then or is your Laguna now running smoothly again?

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! The repair of the ABS control unit cost me €1000 at the time, so it wasn't exactly cheap. But since the failure of the wheel speed sensor (ABS sensor) was repaired, my Laguna has fortunately been running like clockwork again. No more problems since I took it to the mechanic. So yes, I would suggest you get it checked as soon as possible too. Better safe than sorry, right?

Hey, thanks for the help! It makes me feel better to know roughly what I might have to expect. 1000 € is a lot of money, but safety first of course. I find it reassuring to hear that everything has been running smoothly since your repair. That gives me hope for my VelSatis. I will now make an appointment with the mechanic and hope that it will run smoothly again afterwards. Have a good day and thanks again for the tips!
