Acceleration problems and increased fuel consumption with 2006 VW TOURAN gasoline engine

Hi everyone, I was recently worried about my 2006 VW TOURAN gasoline engine (222186km on the clock). It shows really strange symptoms: black smoke when accelerating, the check engine light is on, it loses power, the engine runs unevenly, jerks when accelerating and it consumes too much fuel. I suspect that the problem lies with the lambda sensor. Have any of you had similar experiences? How did it go with your mechanic? Unfortunately, I didn't have such a good run there last time... would be grateful for any info! Thanks in advance for your advice.

Summary of the thread

A 2006 VW TOURAN with a gasoline engine is experiencing acceleration problems, black smoke, uneven engine performance, jerking, and increased fuel consumption. The initial suspicion is a faulty lambda sensor. Another similar case with a VW Golf pointed to a mass airflow sensor issue, suggesting that injectors or the ignition coil could also be potential causes. The problem was resolved by repairing the lambda sensor heater, costing €375.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey buddy, that sounds really tough. I had something similar last month with my 2009 VW Golf. It also ran pretty rough and jerked like it was possessed. Had to go to the garage and they found that the mass airflow sensor was faulty. Sounded serious, but your case could also have something to do with the injectors or the ignition coil. Would say get it checked by a professional and hope you have better luck, mate!

Hey, thanks for the reply and sharing your experience. I will definitely get a professional on it. If you don't mind me asking, do you remember the cost of repairing the mass airflow sensor? And have you had any other problems with your Golf since then? Would be really grateful for any further input.

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! So, since I took the VW Golf to the mechanic, the problem with the LMM was solved. As for the cost: I had to fork out €430 for the repair. Not exactly a bargain, but compared to the stress and hassle of a faulty vehicle, it was worth it to me. Keep your fingers crossed that you get off as lightly as I did, buddy!

Many thanks for the information, really very helpful! The garage checked it out and repaired it straight away. In my case it was probably a fault with the lambda sensor heater. I was really lucky because I only paid €375 in the end. So thanks again for your experience!
