Accent diesel preheating lamp issue
Summary of the thread
The main issue with the 2022 Hyundai Accent diesel is that the preheating lamp on the dashboard won't turn off, and the check engine light is on, accompanied by smoke during acceleration. A potential cause identified is a defective glow control unit. After checking the cable and plug connections without finding visible damage, it was suggested to verify the voltage at the glow plugs when the engine is cold. Ultimately, replacing the glow control unit resolved the problem, restoring normal function.

Thanks for the tip! How did you figure out it was the glow control unit for sure? Was there any specific test you did, or did you just replace it and hope for the best?

I started by checking the glow plugs themselves, and they seemed fine. Then, I remembered a friend mentioning a similar issue with his car. So, I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was the glow control unit using their diagnostic tools. They also pointed out that a faulty cable or plug connection could be the culprit, but in my case, the unit itself was defective. The cost to repair it was 95€. Considering you've already checked the connections, it might be worth getting a professional opinion.

Thanks! I appreciate the advice. I went ahead and took it to the shop, and you were right, it was the glow control unit. They replaced it, and now everything seems to be running smoothly again. The bill came to 95€, just like you said.

I had a similar issue with my Accent. The symptoms were nearly identical – preheating light staying on, engine light popping up, and excess smoke. In my case, it turned out to be a defective glow control unit. Have you checked the voltage at the glow plugs when the engine is cold? That might give you a clue.
