Accent Stalling Issue

Having trouble with my 2001 Hyundai Accent, gasoline engine. Only 79540 km on it. It won't start sometimes, and when it DOES start, it stalls, especially when idling. Plus, the check engine light is on. Engine running rough and my fuel consumption seems higher than usual. I scanned it and there's an error code stored, but I'm not sure what it means. Could it be the fuel pump?

Summary of the thread

A 2001 Hyundai Accent was experiencing starting issues, stalling, a rough-running engine, and increased fuel consumption, with the check engine light on. The problem was suspected to be related to the fuel pump. It was suggested to check the fuel pump's electrical connections, as a faulty cable or loose plug could cause these symptoms. Upon taking the car to a workshop, it was confirmed that a bad connection to the fuel pump was the issue, which was then fixed, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I have an Accent too, and your symptoms sound really familiar. Engine stalling, check engine light... Yup, sounds like what I had a while back. Did you check the fuel pump's electrical connections? A faulty cable or a loose plug could definitely cause these problems before you jump to replacing the pump itself.

Thanks for the tip! Where exactly should I be looking for these connections? I'm not the most mechanically inclined, so a little guidance would be great. Are they easy to get to? Any chance you remember the specific error code you got?

Okay, so on my Accent, the fuel pump is inside the fuel tank. You can usually access it from under the rear seat – there should be an access panel. However, because you're not that mechanically inclined, I would seriously consider taking it to a workshop. They'll be able to diagnose the issue properly and have the right tools to fix it. If it is the fuel pump connection, they should be able to sort it out pretty quickly. If not, they can properly diagnose it.

Thanks so much for the advice! I took it to a local shop, and you were spot on – it WAS a bad connection to the fuel pump. They cleaned it up and secured it properly. Cost me 95€! Runs like a charm now!
