Accord Hybrid ECU power reduction

Experiencing reduced engine power with my 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid (66347 km). Local shop found an error pointing to a defective engine control unit (ECU) and mentioned the main relay. Anyone encountered something similar? Simple fix, like a system reset, or full ECU repair?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid experienced reduced engine power, with diagnostics indicating a potential issue with the engine control unit (ECU) and the main relay. The problem was traced to a defective main relay, which disrupted the ECU's ability to control the engine properly. Replacing the main relay resolved the issue without needing a full ECU replacement, restoring the vehicle's performance.

I had something similar happen with my Accord. Reduced engine power and everything. Turned out to be a defective main relay. The relay provides the car's computer (ECU) with power. Because the relay was defective, the ECU was not able to correctly control the engine, which caused the power reduction. It's a relatively inexpensive part, but if it fries your ECU, it can become really expensive!

Was it definitely the main relay causing the ECU to act up in your case? Did you end up needing a full ECU replacement, or was just fixing the relay enough? Did the error message specifically mention the relay, or just the ECU?

Yep, it was definitely the main relay messing with the ECU. The error message only pointed to the ECU and, no, I didn't need a complete ECU replacement, thankfully! Just the relay replacement sorted it out. I would take it to a trusted workshop, so they can perform car diagnostics.

The main relay was defective causing the ECU to not correctly control the engine. The mechanic replaced the main relay and cleared the error codes and all is good again. Total repair cost was only 120€. Now I can go back to enjoying my Honda Accord Hybrid. I appreciate your help!
