Accord preheating lamp stays on
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Honda Accord diesel is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp staying on and the check engine light being illuminated, accompanied by smoke during acceleration. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the preheating control unit, possibly due to defective electrical connections. The recommended solution is to inspect and possibly replace the cable and plug connections of the preheating unit, which was confirmed to resolve the issue after professional servicing.

Thanks! Where exactly is the preheating unit located? Is it easy to get to, or do I need to take apart half the engine?

It's usually near the engine block, but honestly, it can be a pain to get to depending on your engine configuration. Given the symptoms, it really sounds like the preheating control unit. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. It can save a lot of time and frustration.

Thanks, I appreciate the help! I took it to a local shop, and you were spot on – turned out to be a defective connection in the preheating control unit. They replaced the cable and plug, and the total cost was 95€. Everything's working fine now.

I had a similar issue with my Accord. I would check the cable and plug connections of the preheating unit. It might be a defective electrical fault.
