Accord preheating lamp stays on

Hey, I'm having trouble with my 2002 Honda Accord diesel. The preheating lamp won't switch off, and the check engine light is also on. I've also noticed some smoke when I accelerate. Could this be related? I've checked some basic stuff, but I'm not really sure where to start.
