Active hood fault and airbag light issue

I'm seeing an 'Active hood fault' message on my 2009 Mini Cooper Diesel with 123710 km. The airbag light is on too. Hooked it up to a diagnostic tool, and it's showing an error related to the active hood system – apparently the spring actuators are even triggering. I'm suspecting a defective acceleration sensor as the culprit. Anyone else run into this safety system issue before?

I had a similar issue with my Mini. Not a Diesel though. Airbag light and everything. Was the collision detection throwing a fit?

Collision detection throwing a fit? Is that like the car thinking it's about to crash even when it isn't? What exactly did you experience?

Yeah, exactly like that. The system basically went haywire. Kept thinking there was a crash imminent. I ended up taking it to a workshop; they sorted it out quickly.

Thanks for confirming! It was indeed the acceleration sensor. Got it replaced for 315€. Hopefully, this fixes the active hood fault and the airbag light for good.
