Active Hood Fault Fiat Tipo

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2017 Fiat Tipo with a gasoline engine. The on-board computer displays an "Active hood fault" message, and the airbag warning light is constantly on. I've checked the error memory, and it confirms the active hood fault. Also, it seems the spring actuators have been triggered, although I haven't had any impact. Has anyone else encountered this? Could a defective acceleration sensor really be the culprit? The repair cost is estimated at 315€, which I want to avoid if possible.

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Fiat Tipo owner reported an "Active hood fault" message and a constant airbag warning light, with error memory confirming the fault and spring actuators triggered without impact. The issue was suspected to be caused by a defective acceleration sensor. After consulting with others who experienced similar problems, it was confirmed that replacing the acceleration sensor resolved the issue, despite the repair cost of 315€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi! This sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my 2019 Opel Astra. The pedestrian safety system went haywire, with similar warnings and the airbag light. Was there any event prior to the faults appearance?

Thanks for your reply! No, there wasn't any noticeable event before the fault appeared. The car was parked overnight, and the next morning, the warnings were there. Did replacing the sensor fix the problem in your Opel?

In my case, yes, the acceleration sensor was the problem. Given the symptoms and the error code, it's highly likely the same for you. I'd suggest getting it checked out properly at a workshop to confirm before spending any money though. That system is linked to the airbags, so it's better to be safe.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were right – it was indeed the acceleration sensor. Replacing it resolved the active hood fault and the airbag warning. Cost me 315€ in the end. Appreciate your help!
