Active hood fault Peugeot 106

I'm getting really frustrated. I've got a 2003 Peugeot 106, electric engine, and this "Active hood fault" message keeps popping up! The airbag light is on too, which is super concerning. I plugged it into a reader, and there's an error stored. The weirdest thing is I can hear the spring actuators clicking away sometimes when I start the car, like they're trying to do something. Anyone else run into this pedestrian safety issue?

I also own a Peugeot 106 and had a similar experience not too long ago. Could you check whether your car has an acceleration sensor? In my case, that was the issue.

An acceleration sensor? Where exactly is that located, and is it difficult to replace? I'm reasonably handy, but I don't want to mess with the airbag system too much.

The acceleration sensor is part of the active hood system, and yes, it was indeed the root cause of my problems as well. I strongly recommend you take the car to a workshop, since the airbag system might get damaged. It is safety-relevant equipment.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to hear. I took it to my local mechanic. Turns out it was a defective acceleration sensor just like you said. Cost me 315€ to get it sorted, but at least the airbags should now work correctly in case of a crash!
