Adam Camshaft Sensor Issue

Experiencing a vexing issue with my 2012 Vauxhall Adam, gasoline engine, clocked 139322 km. It starts poorly, often requiring several attempts; the engine stalls at idle, especially when cold; and the check engine light is on. My diagnostic tool suggests a defective camshaft sensor, potentially due to a faulty encoder wheel on the camshafts. Has anyone encountered similar woes? I'm trying to avoid replacing parts blindly and would appreciate any insights into sensor testing or ignition timing checks before a costly repair.

I have an Adam as well. Your symptoms sound very familiar. I had a similar issue a while back – rough starts, stalling. It turned out to be related to the camshaft position sensor. Have you checked the wiring to the sensor? Sometimes a loose connection can cause these problems.

Thank you for your prompt response! I have inspected the wiring harness for obvious damage, but I haven't performed a thorough continuity test yet. Could you elaborate on the specifics of your experience? Did your diagnostic tool also point to the camshaft sensor, and did you attempt any troubleshooting steps before replacing the part?

Yes, the diagnostic pointed directly to the camshaft sensor. I initially cleaned the sensor and checked the wiring like you did, but the problem persisted. Eventually, I took it to a workshop. They confirmed it was the sensor, and said the encoder wheel can be the problem too. They replaced the camshaft sensor, and everything was fine after that.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. It seems my initial assessment was likely correct, and the camshaft sensor is indeed the culprit. Based on your recommendation, I'll probably forgo further testing and entrust the repair to a workshop. They've quoted me 695€, which seems reasonable considering the potential complexity. Thank you!
