Airbag warning light on Seat Altea

I am writing to inquire about a problem I'm experiencing with my 2005 Seat Altea, which has a gasoline engine. The airbag warning lamp is continuously illuminated in the speedometer. The car has 132971 km. From what I've read, the likely cause is a defective cable or plug connection in the restraint system. This is obviously concerning from a vehicle safety perspective. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Sounds like a familiar headache. I had a similar airbag warning light issue on my old Renault Megane. In my case, it was a bad connection under the seat. Have you checked the plugs and cables going to the crash sensor? Those can be a real pain and cause the airbag deployment system to fail.

Thanks for the reply. Where exactly should I be looking for this 'bad connection'? Is it something I can easily check myself, or will I need special tools?

Yeah, it was definitely a fiddly job. The connections are usually under the seats or near the crash sensors. I'm no expert, but if you aren't confident get it checked by a professional. Playing around with the airbag deployment system when you don't know what you're doing can be dangerous. A defective crash sensor can have serious consequences.

Thanks. I took it to a workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty plug connection on a crash sensor like you suspected. They fixed it for 95€, which is a relief. Good to know the vehicle safety systems are working again.
