Vehicle emissions? I don't have the tools to check that myself. Is it worth buying a sensor tester, or am I better off just taking it to a workshop? I'm trying to keep costs down, but that light is really annoying.

Honestly, based on my experience, it's probably best to go to a workshop. With the Astra, I spent ages fiddling with it and ended up causing more problems. They can test the sensor properly and check for any other underlying issues with the heater element or wiring.

Okay, I appreciate the advice. I took it in. You were spot on – faulty sensor and a dodgy connection. Cost me 95€ all in. Check engine light is finally off, and hopefully, my fuel consumption will go back to normal. Thanks!

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, although it was a petrol engine. The malfunction indicator lamp kept coming on. It turned out to be a faulty sensor, but the mechanic also mentioned checking the wiring first. Did you check the vehicle emissions? Was it running rich?
