Albea Steering Problem
Summary of the thread
The 2002 Fiat Albea experienced intermittent power steering issues, requiring more effort and occasional steering wheel vibrations. The suspected cause was a faulty steering angle sensor or a coding issue. The solution involved recoding the sensor and performing a wheel alignment at a workshop, which resolved the problem.

No recent work, just regular maintenance. Recalibration, huh? Is that something I can do myself, or am I looking at a workshop visit?

Honestly, on the Astra it needed a specific diagnostic tool to properly recode the sensor. Probably best to get it checked at a workshop to avoid further alignment problems. A faulty sensor replacement might also solve the issue, but it's better to diagnose it first.

Took it to the shop; you were spot on. Faulty coding on the steering angle sensor. Recoding and a wheel alignment later, and it's sorted. Cost me 195€ . Cheers!

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old Opel Astra after suspension work. Turned out to be the steering sensor needing recalibration. Have you had any work done on the front end recently?
