Allion Low Coolant

Hey, I've got a 2023 Toyota Allion hybrid with about 52531 km on it. Recently, the check engine light popped on, and when I scanned it, the error memory pointed to low coolant. I checked, and sure enough, the coolant level is way down. Any ideas what could be causing this on such a new car? Radiator hoses look okay, cooling fan seems to be working. Could there be air pockets?

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my Allion (petrol engine). Same symptoms - check engine light and low coolant. I'm wondering, did you check for any coolant leaks around the water pump or radiator itself? Perhaps even a tiny leak could cause the level to drop over time.

Good point. I didn't specifically check the water pump area. I'll give that a look. But even a small leak should leave some kind of residue, right? I haven't seen anything obvious on the driveway. Is there any other cause you can think of for low coolant?

You'd think so, but sometimes it's hard to spot. In my case, it was a hairline crack in the radiator. Evaporated before it hit the ground. Considering your Allion is still pretty new, I'd recommend taking it to a trusted workshop. They can pressure test the cooling system and pinpoint the leak. It will be worth it.

Thanks for the tip! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. It was a small leak in the radiator. They replaced it, and the total cost was 52€. Check engine light is off, and the error code is gone. Appreciate the help!
