Almera overheating speed sensor

My 2005 Nissan Almera with a diesel engine is overheating badly, and the check engine light is on. The radiator fan isn't spinning correctly. Could it be the fan, or something else affecting the temperature control? Mileage is 92004 km

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Nissan Almera with a diesel engine is experiencing severe overheating, and the radiator fan isn't functioning correctly. The issue may be linked to a faulty speed sensor, which can interfere with the cooling system by providing incorrect speed data, preventing the fan from activating properly. A diagnostic tool can confirm this issue, and replacing the speed sensor resolved the problem in a similar case.

I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra: overheating and the check engine light. It turned out to be a faulty speed sensor messing with the cooling system. The car thought it was going slower, so the fan wasn't kicking in. It could be something like that for you.

Interesting! How did you figure out it was the speed sensor? Was it obvious, or did you need a diagnostic tool?

I was stumped at first. I had to take it to a workshop. They used their diagnostic tool, and it immediately flagged the speed sensor. Apparently, it's a common issue. If the fan blade looks fine, it might be worth checking out. I paid around 200€, but budget 250€, just in case.

That's a great analogy, I appreciate it! I'll get the speed sensor checked. You were right; it was the speed sensor! I'm so glad this is over!
