Almera solar sensor fault and low heating output
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Nissan Almera diesel is experiencing a solar sensor fault and low heating output. The issue might be due to a bad connection, as suggested by a similar case where cleaning the sensor didn't resolve the problem. The recommended solution is to have the connections checked and possibly repaired at a workshop, which could resolve the heating and sensor issues.

Good thinking! Where exactly is the solar sensor located on the dash? I want to try cleaning it before digging deeper. And is there a way to test if it's actually working properly?

It's usually in the middle of the dashboard near the windscreen - small, circular thing. Honestly, testing it properly needs proper diagnostic gear. My issue sounds very similar to yours and turned out to be a faulty connection like you suspect. I ended up biting the bullet and taking it to a workshop. Saved me a ton of headaches.

Thanks for the advice! I checked the sensor and cleaned it, but no luck. Looks like I'll be heading to the workshop too. Just got a quote of 95€ for fixing the cable. Hopefully, that'll sort it!

I had something similar happen in my Almera. Not sure if it's exactly the same, but my heater was blowing cold air even when the engine was warm. Have you checked the sensor itself? It's like a little eye on the dash. Maybe it's just covered in dust or something?
