Alphard exhaust back pressure sensor issue

I'm experiencing issues with my 2019 Toyota Alphard hybrid, with 130251 km on the clock. Recently, the warning light in the speedometer came on, and I've noticed smoke when accelerating. After some research, it seems like the exhaust back pressure sensor might be defective. Has anyone encountered this before? Any insights would be appreciated.

Hey there! I have an Alphard too. Your issue sounds pretty familiar. I had similar symptoms – warning light and smoke – which turned out to be a faulty exhaust pressure sensor. Have you checked the sensor's wiring for any obvious damage or loose connections? Also, did you run any vehicle diagnostics to confirm the sensor's malfunction?

Thanks for the quick response! I did check the wiring briefly, but I'll take a closer look. As for diagnostics, I haven't run any myself. I was hoping to get some insights before taking it to a workshop. When you had this issue, did it affect your engine performance significantly, and did you notice any changes in fuel consumption?

No worries! Yes, engine performance definitely took a hit, felt sluggish, and fuel consumption went up noticeably. Given your symptoms and the mileage, it's highly likely the sensor. Honestly, save yourself the headache and get it properly diagnosed at a trusted workshop. My gut feeling says you are facing the same issue I did. I ended up replacing the sensor, and everything went back to normal. The repair set me back around 245€.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to know that someone else had a similar issue and how it was resolved. I'll definitely take it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis and sensor replacement. Appreciate your help!
