Alphard exhaust flap issue

I own a 2023 Toyota Alphard with a hybrid engine and I'm having trouble with the exhaust flaps. There's a stored error and the exhaust is louder than usual. After a cold start, the engine is also noisy. I suspect a defective exhaust flap. Mileage is at 60782 km. Any thoughts?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Toyota Alphard owner is experiencing issues with the exhaust flaps, leading to a louder exhaust and noisy cold starts, with a stored error code. The problem is suspected to be a defective exhaust flap. A similar case was resolved by inspecting and repairing the exhaust components, specifically the exhaust flap, which was not closing properly. The recommended solution is to have a workshop inspect and potentially replace the faulty exhaust flap to prevent further engine performance issues.

I had a similar experience with my Alphard. The symptoms you describe – louder exhaust and a noisy cold start – sound very familiar. Did you notice any change in engine performance, like reduced power or fuel efficiency? It may be caused by an exhaust blockage.

Thanks for your response. I haven't specifically noticed any reduced power or significant changes in fuel efficiency. Could you elaborate on your experience? Did it turn out to be the exhaust flap in your case, and what was the fix?

It was the exhaust flap. Think of it like a valve that isn't closing properly. The noise and error code were dead giveaways. I strongly suggest having a workshop inspect the exhaust components promptly. My repair cost about 190€. Ignoring it could affect engine performance in the long run, like running with the parking brake slightly on.

I appreciate the insight. It's helpful to know that your Alphard experienced a similar issue. I'll schedule an appointment with a workshop to have the exhaust system inspected and the exhaust flap replaced. It sounds like the best course of action. Thank you again!
