Alphard Power Tailgate Hall Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Toyota Alphard owner experienced an issue with the power tailgate not opening fully, suspecting a hall sensor problem. The likely cause was identified as a defective cable or plug connection related to the sensor. It was suggested to inspect the wiring for damage or corrosion, and if necessary, seek professional repair. The issue was resolved by replacing the faulty cable, restoring the tailgate's functionality.

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't checked the wiring yet, but that's a great suggestion. Where exactly is the hall sensor located? Is it difficult to access? I'm reasonably handy, but I don't want to mess anything up.

The hall sensor is typically located near the tailgate latch mechanism. Accessing it can be a bit tricky, as you'll likely need to remove some interior trim panels. Given the error code and incomplete opening, it strongly suggests the cable or plug connection of the sensor is defective. While a visual inspection is a good start, keep in mind that sensor calibration issues can sometimes mimic a sensor fault. Considering the cost of a new sensor versus diagnostic fees, it might be wise to take it to a workshop. I'd estimate the repair cost at around 95€.

Thanks a million for your help! I took your advice and brought it to a local workshop. Turns out you were spot on - it was a defective cable and plug connection of the hall sensor. They replaced the cable and the tailgate is working perfectly again! The bill was exactly 95€, as you predicted. Really appreciate the help!

Greetings! It sounds like you're experiencing a common issue with the Alphard's automatic tailgate system. The hall sensor is indeed a likely culprit. Have you checked the sensor wiring and plug connection for any obvious signs of damage or corrosion? It could be a simple fix like a loose connection.
