Altima electrical issues
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Nissan Altima is experiencing electrical issues, including poor starting, flickering lights, and a radio that cuts out. The battery voltage appears low, raising concerns about whether the problem is a bad battery or something more complex. Suggestions include checking the charging system, particularly the alternator, and considering a parasitic draw. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by replacing a heavily discharged battery and verifying the charging system's functionality at a workshop.

Interesting, thanks! When you say charging system, what exactly should I be looking for? Is there a way to easily check the alternator output? I am not very experienced with car electrics, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

I didn't do any heavy troubleshooting myself. I just checked the battery terminals were clean. After that I brought it to a mechanic. It's likely a defective battery if it's old, but they can properly diagnose the charging system to be sure. Best to get it checked before you start replacing parts randomly.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were right – it was a heavily discharged battery. They replaced it, checked the charging system, and everything seems good now. Cost me about 290€.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my old BMW after it sat for a while. Turned out the battery was heavily discharged. Check your charging system. Could be an alternator issue, or a parasitic draw somewhere.
