Amarok Headlight Auto-Leveling System Malfunction Fix

My 2021 Amarok is having issues with the headlight system. The low beams are pointing incorrectly, sometimes too high, sometimes too low. The warning light in the speedometer is on, and there are stored error codes. I suspect the auto-leveling headlight system or headlight range control might be faulty. The car seems to struggle maintaining proper beam height adjustment. Has anyone experienced similar headlight malfunctions? Would be great to hear about successful repairs and what the actual issue was in your case. Also interested in knowing if this was resolved by replacing the control module, electrical connectors, or if it was something else entirely. What did your workshop diagnose and how much did the repair cost?

I had a similar issue with my 2019 VW Tiguan 2.0 TSI. As someone with some hands-on car maintenance experience, I initially thought it was just a simple calibration issue. The symptoms were nearly identical, inconsistent light intensity and unusual changes in beam height. The auto-leveling system was clearly malfunctioning, showing similar warning lights on the dash. My workshop diagnosed it as a defective servomotor in the headlight assembly. The control module was receiving correct signals, but the servomotor wasnt responding properly to the range control commands. The complete diagnostic process took about 2 hours. The repair involved: Full diagnostic scan, Removal of headlight assembly, Replacement of faulty servomotor, Recalibration of the lighting system, Final testing of auto-leveling function Total cost was 1040€ including parts and labor. The repair solved the issue completely, and the auto-leveling has worked flawlessly since then. Which engine variant does your Amarok have? Also, does the issue occur more frequently when the vehicle is loaded or during specific conditions? This information would help determine if your case is similar to what I experienced.

Latest service was at 75000km. Thanks for sharing your repair experience. My symptoms match yours quite closely, though in my case the lighting system seems most erratic during night driving. The headlight switch appears to be functioning normally but the range control definitely isnt responding consistently. I checked all visible electrical connectors around the headlight assembly but found no obvious damage. The warning lights started appearing more frequently over the past 2 weeks. The control module diagnostic shows error code P052F. The repair cost you mentioned is helpful for budgeting. Will have the servomotor checked first based on your experience. Would like to know if others encountered similar issues with later Amarok models.

Thanks for the additional details about your Amarok. The P052F error code typically relates to the adaptive headlights system, which aligns with the symptoms. After fixing mine, I learned that night driving issues often point to a failed headlight leveling sensor rather than just the servomotor. The electrical connectors might look fine visually but could have internal corrosion affecting the signal transmission. In my follow-up maintenance, I discovered that regular calibration of the auto-leveling system at each service interval helps prevent these issues. Since your last service was at 75000km, this might be worth checking. Consider asking your workshop to: 1. Test the level sensors specifically 2. Check the wiring harness between sensors and control module 3. Verify if the headlight switch is sending correct signals My repair bill ended up covering more than just the servomotor. A faulty connector had damaged the control module, pushing the total to 1290€. The workshop found this only after deeper diagnostics. Keep monitoring if the malfunction gets worse during specific conditions like bumpy roads or temperature changes. This information will help pinpoint whether its primarily a mechanical or electrical issue.

Thanks for the thorough information about your Tiguan repair. My symptoms match yours quite closely, though in my case the lighting system seems most erratic during night driving. The headlight switch appears normal but the adaptive headlights and beam adjustment are definitely not responding consistently. I did a thorough check of all visible electrical connectors near the headlight assembly but found no obvious damage. The warning lights started appearing more frequently over the past 2 weeks, especially when using high beams. The diagnostic scan shows error code P052F consistently. The repair cost breakdown you shared helps with budgeting. Based on your experience, I will have them check the servomotor and light intensity sensor first. The auto-leveling system seems to be the core issue, given how the beam height keeps changing unpredictably. Would be great to hear if other Amarok owners experienced similar headlight malfunctions, particularly with later models. Wondering if the control module replacement and connector repair solved it completely in their cases too. I will update once I get a full diagnostic report from the workshop. Latest service was at 75000km, so perhaps some calibration work is also needed.
