Thanks for sharing your experience with the Tiguan window troubleshooting. Had almost identical power window issues with my 2013 Amarok last winter. After reading your post, I tried the reset procedure but no luck, ended up needing both the window regulator and switch assembly replaced. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? My window repair bill seemed steep, and I am curious how it compares. Also wondering if you have experienced any other car window problems since getting it fixed?

Good news, finally got the car back from the shop and everything is working perfectly now. The window regulator initialization issue turned out to be connected to a failing battery, which was draining power from the electrical systems. After replacing the vehicle battery for 290€, they recalibrated all power window controls and the error disappeared completely. For proper car electronics troubleshooting, they first tested all window components systematically. Unlike my previous experience with other shops, this mechanic actually explained how a weak battery can cause window control module malfunctions. Since the repair three months ago, all car window functions have been working flawlessly with no recurring issues. Much less expensive than initially feared, especially compared to complete window regulator replacement quotes I received elsewhere. If your window reset attempts are unsuccessful, definitely have the battery checked first, it could save you from unnecessary repairs.

Thanks for all the responses. After reading about similar problems, I finally took my Amarok to a certified mechanic last week. Initially worried it would require extensive repairs, but the diagnostic process was thorough and transparent. The mechanic tested all window controls systematically and found the window regulator was indeed faulty, along with a degraded window switch. Total repair cost came to 450€ including parts and labor. While not cheap, they showed me the worn components and explained everything clearly. The repair took about 3 hours, and they even performed a full electrical system check to prevent future issues. Now all windows work perfectly, no more strange noises or sluggish movement. Really glad I researched before choosing a shop, as their expertise with car window systems was evident throughout the process. For anyone facing similar problems, definitely get a proper diagnosis before agreeing to repairs. The right mechanic will take time to explain the window motor issues and won't push unnecessary replacements.

Had the same window regulator issue on my 2015 VW Tiguan. The power window system completely failed after the battery replacement, a common occurrence when the main power is disconnected without proper precautions. The window switch and control module often need recalibration after power loss. In my case, the window motor had to be reset using a specific procedure: hold the window switch in the up position for 5 seconds after the window is fully closed. If this reset procedure fails, there might be deeper issues with the window controls or wiring. At the garage, they first performed a full diagnostic scan to check the window motor circuits. The problem was traced to a failed master window switch, which is a known weak point in these models. The repair involved replacing the driver side switch panel and reprogramming the window control module. This is generally not a serious repair when handled correctly, but it requires proper diagnostic equipment and manufacturer-specific knowledge. Make sure any shop you visit has experience with VW electrical systems and can provide a detailed diagnosis before starting repairs. Watch out for shops suggesting complete window motor replacement without first testing the switch and control module, that is often unnecessary and expensive.
