AMG GT hybrid transmission issue

My 2019 Mercedes AMG GT hybrid is showing some concerning symptoms. The check engine light and transmission indicator are both on. I'm experiencing slippage and unclean shifts from the automatic transmission, accompanied by grinding noises during gear changes. An error code points to a defective torque converter lock-up clutch. I suspect it's a converter fault in the automatic gearbox. Has anyone seen anything similar?

Whoa, that sounds rough! A grinding noise is never good news for an automatic transmission. I haven’t personally dealt with a converter fault but those symptoms definitely point to a serious clutch problem in the automatic gearbox. Has the car been serviced regularly? Any chance old transmission fluid could be the culprit?

Servicing is up to date. Fluid was changed at the recommended interval. You mentioned the engine surge. Does a faulty torque converter clutch definitely cause that? I'm trying to get my head around how the two are linked. Is this something I can verify myself?

Okay, recent fluid change rules out the easiest fix. Yeah, a bad converter can definitely cause engine surge because it's not locking up properly. It creates a drag on the engine at certain speeds. Honestly, without specialist tools it's going to be tough to verify yourself. Given the symptoms, error code, and the potential damage a failed automatic transmission can cause, it's probably best to get it to a reputable workshop for a proper diagnosis. Sounds like a major automatic gearbox issue.

I appreciate the input. I suspected as much. I booked it in with a local specialist. Turns out it was a defective torque converter, as initially suspected. Repair cost 2120€, including parts and labor. Thanks for confirming my fears and prompting me to get it sorted quickly.
