Argo rain light sensor faulty

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my 2017 Fiat Argo, gasoline engine. It has 223661 km on the clock. The rain-light sensor seems faulty. I'm getting an error stored, and the automatic wiping mode doesn't work when it rains. Also, the automatic headlight control isn't functioning, and the speedometer dimming isn't working either. The lights switch on by themselves sometimes. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Fiat Argo owner is experiencing issues with a faulty rain-light sensor, affecting the automatic wipers, headlights, and speedometer dimming. A potential cause identified is bubbles forming under the gel pad where the sensor adheres to the windshield, interfering with its function. The suggested solution is to inspect for bubbles and have the sensor checked or replaced at a workshop, which resolved the issue for another owner with a similar problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello. I had a similar problem with my Argo. Have you checked for any visual obstructions or damage to the sensor on the windshield? In my case, I found some bubbles forming under the gel pad of the windshield where the sensor sits. Is there anything like that in your car?

Thanks for the quick reply! Bubbles under the gel pad, you say? I haven't specifically looked for that. Where exactly on the windshield was it, and could the bubbles really cause all those symptoms – the wipers, headlights, and speedometer dimming?

Yes, that's correct. The bubbles were right under the sensor itself, where it adheres to the windshield. Apparently, they interfere with the sensor's ability to properly detect light and rain. I would recommend taking it to a workshop to have it checked and potentially replaced if the bubbles are the problem. They should be able to confirm it definitively and give you a more concrete solution.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I'll definitely check for the bubbles and then take it to a workshop. It seems that was exactly the root cause of the problem. The dealership replaced the sensor for 62€ and everything is working fine again!
