Arkana Active Hood Fault

I've got a 2022 Renault Arkana hybrid, and recently I've been getting an annoying 'Active hood fault' message popping up. The airbag warning light is also on, which is even more concerning! I plugged in an OBD reader, and it showed an error related to the active hood system. It seems like the spring actuators have been triggered, which I understand is not supposed to happen unless there's an actual collision. Has anyone experienced this before? Could it be a faulty sensor? I read somewhere the repair could cost 315€ - is that realistic?

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Renault Arkana hybrid owner experienced an 'Active hood fault' message and an airbag warning light, indicating a potential issue with the active hood system. The problem was suspected to be caused by defective spring actuators or a faulty acceleration sensor, which are not supposed to activate without a collision. After professional diagnostics, the issue was confirmed to be a defective acceleration sensor, and the repair cost was approximately 315€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like a pain! I had a similar issue with my Arkana. I didn't get the airbag light, but the 'Active hood fault' message was persistent. The active hood is designed to pop up in a pedestrian collision – like a crumple zone for people. It could be a defective acceleration sensor. Did the error code specifically point to that?

Thanks for the reply! The error code didn't specifically say acceleration sensor, but from what I could gather, that seemed to be the most likely culprit. I'm just worried about fiddling with it myself and making things worse. Was your issue definitely the same, even without the airbag light?

Yeah, symptoms sound very similar. I’m no expert, but it's worth getting it checked out professionally rather than poking around and potentially causing more damage. With the airbag light on too, it sounds like it could be a more serious issue. My sensor ended up being the problem in the end, but it's always best to get a proper diagnosis. Book it into a workshop!

Thanks for confirming! I booked it into a shop as you suggested. They ran diagnostics and, as you suspected, the acceleration sensor was defective. Parts and labor ended up costing around 315€, pretty much exactly as I read online, so at least there were no surprises there. I appreciate the advice!
