Arkana Check Engine Light and Stalling

I'm really stressed! My 2021 Renault Arkana with a gasoline engine has about 114593 km on it. Recently, the check engine light keeps popping on, and the engine occasionally stalls, especially when I'm idling. A local shop said the error memory has some kind of incorrect fuel composition error stored and mumbled something about a possible defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced something similar? I'm so worried it's going to be a huge repair bill!

Oh man, that sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same issue with my old Peugeot 308. Check engine light, stalling... the works! In my case, it turned out to be a dodgy sensor related to the fuel system. Did the shop mention anything about checking the fuel lines or the fuel pump relay? It could also be something as simple as a bad batch of fuel. I'm not a mechanic, but I've been burned by bad fuel before. Are you using fuel additives or anything like that?

Thanks so much for the reply! No, they didn't specifically mention fuel lines or the fuel pump relay. They just said 'incorrect fuel composition' and the defective cable or plug connection was the likely cause. I don't usually use fuel additives, but I did fill up at a different gas station than usual last week. Could that really be the cause? Is there anything I can do myself to check before taking it back to the shop? I'm not really mechanically inclined, to be honest.

Honestly, a different gas station could definitely be a factor! It's happened to me before, where the fuel quality was questionable. While I wouldn't recommend trying to diagnose it yourself if you're not comfortable (fuel systems can be tricky), I'd definitely mention the different gas station to the shop. If the error is still there and you can't figure out the root cause, I would suggest taking it back to the shop you went to initially to get a definitive diagnosis. It cost me 95€ to fix it! Hopefully, it's something minor!

I went back to the shop and told them about the different gas station. They ran some tests, and you were right! It turned out to be contaminated fuel. They drained the tank, cleaned the fuel lines, and replaced the fuel filter. The car is running perfectly now! The final repair cost was 95€, just as you said! Thanks a million for your help and for pointing me in the right direction!
