Arkana Hybrid Battery Sensor Issue

I've got a 2021 Renault Arkana hybrid with about 137k km. Recently, the car struggles to start sometimes, and the lights seem a bit dim, almost flickering, especially at idle. I've checked the battery voltage, and it seems low even after a decent drive. I'm suspecting a bad battery sensor. Anyone else experienced something similar? A defective battery sensor can cause inaccurate readings, leading the car's charging system to undercharge the battery.

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Renault Arkana hybrid was experiencing starting issues and dim, flickering lights, suspected to be caused by a faulty battery sensor. The sensor's malfunction led to inaccurate voltage readings, causing the charging system to undercharge the battery. After checking the sensor connections and consulting a workshop, it was confirmed that the sensor was indeed faulty. Replacing the sensor resolved the issues, restoring proper function to the car's starting and lighting systems.

Hey! I have an Arkana too. I had similar symptoms last year - weak starts and flickering lights. I also suspected the battery itself, but it turned out to be a faulty sensor. Did you check the sensor connections for corrosion or damage?

Thanks for the info! Good to know I'm not alone. I did a quick visual check of the sensor connections, but didn't see anything obvious like corrosion. Where was your sensor located, and how did you finally diagnose it?

Mine was near the negative terminal of the battery. Honestly, I didn't do much diagnosing myself. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed the faulty sensor with their diagnostic tools. They mentioned it was throwing off the battery voltage readings, which is why the charging system wasn't working correctly. Best to get it checked professionally; they can pinpoint the issue quickly.

Appreciate the advice! I took your suggestion and went to a shop. They confirmed it was indeed the battery sensor. Repair cost me about 315€ including labor. Now the car starts like new and the lights are bright again. Thanks for the help!

I have the same issue. Late 2021 edition of Arkana. This is a periodic error at best. But if you can't switch off and leave it for 10 or 15 minutes, it will persist. If you try to drive it, it will drain the battery right down to the last bar and start to lose power with no acceleration. Seems to charge a little when going downhill. I've just popped into the local garage because it literally just happened again and there are no errors in the diagnostic scan.

It sounds like your issue might be related to the alternator or its connections. If the alternator isn't charging the battery properly, it could cause the symptoms you're experiencing. Check the alternator belt for wear and tension, and inspect the connections for any signs of corrosion or looseness. If everything looks fine, it might be worth having the alternator tested by a professional. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!
