Aslan exhaust temperature sensor issue

Hi, I have a 2015 Hyundai Aslan with a gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, and I've noticed reduced engine power and higher fuel consumption. The car has 31664 km on the clock. Could a faulty exhaust temperature sensor be the culprit? I suspect a leak in the exhaust system might be the underlying cause.

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Hyundai Aslan owner reported a check engine light, reduced engine power, and higher fuel consumption, suspecting a faulty exhaust temperature sensor and a possible exhaust system leak. The issue was confirmed through error codes pointing to the sensor. A similar case suggested that a leak, such as a crack in the exhaust manifold, could damage the sensor over time. The recommended solution was a thorough inspection and repair by a reputable workshop, which ultimately confirmed the leak and sensor failure, leading to necessary repairs.

Hello, I encountered a similar issue with my 2017 Opel Insignia, also gasoline. The symptoms you describe mirror what I experienced. The check engine light, reduced power, and increased fuel consumption strongly suggest a problem within the exhaust system. The exhaust temperature sensor is definitely a component to investigate. Was the car scanned for error codes?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, the car was scanned, and the error code pointed towards the exhaust temperature sensor. Given your experience with the Opel, do you think the leak in the exhaust system caused the sensor to fail, or was it simply the sensor itself?

In my case, the faulty sensor was a consequence of a small crack in the exhaust manifold. The altered exhaust gas flow and temperature likely damaged the sensor over time. A thorough inspection of your exhaust system for any signs of leaks or damage would be prudent. Ultimately, I'd recommend a reputable workshop for diagnostics, since the sensor is an integral component of the exhaust.

I appreciate the advice. I took it to the shop, and they confirmed a leak in the exhaust system, which caused the exhaust temperature sensor to fail. The sensor replacement and exhaust repair cost me 265€. Thanks again!
