Astra Active Hood Fault

I'm cheesed off with this active hood fault on my 2019 Vauxhall Astra, petrol engine. Only done 21409 km! The computer flashes 'Active hood fault', and the airbag warning light is on. My OBD scanner shows an error code related to the pedestrian impact system. The spring actuators under the hood even fired off for no reason! I think it's a dodgy acceleration sensor in the front bumper. Anyone else had this safety system issue? Any advice before I start?

I had something similar with my Astra, although the spring actuators didn't fire. The 'Active hood fault' message and the airbag light were present. Did you check the wiring harness and connections to the sensor? A loose or corroded connection can trigger these faults.

Good shout on the wiring, I'll give that a look-over first. Where is the sensor located? Behind the bumper somewhere? Was your error code the same, relating to the pedestrian impact system?

Yes, the sensor is mounted behind the front bumper, roughly in the center. Access isn't too bad, but you'll need to remove the bumper cover. The error code was the same - related to the pedestrian impact system and acceleration sensor. I took mine to a workshop; they replaced the sensor and the issue was resolved. It's a safety system, so I didn't want to mess around with it too much myself.

Thanks for the confirmation and advice. I checked the wiring, as you suggested, and everything seemed fine, so I took it to a local garage. They confirmed it was a defective acceleration sensor. New sensor fitted and coded, all in for 315€. Airbag light is now off, and the 'Active hood fault' message is gone! Thanks again for your help!
