Astra fuel rail pressure sensor fault

Evening. I have a 2001 Vauxhall Astra with a gasoline engine. Mileage is at 113049 km. Recently, the check engine light comes on intermittently, and sometimes the engine stalls at idle, and I've noticed a reduction in engine power. I pulled the codes and it's showing a fault with the rail pressure sensor signal. I'm leaning towards a defective pressure sensor. Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

Rail pressure sensor issues, eh? Sounds familiar. Before you jump to replacing the sensor, have you checked the wiring and connections to the sensor itself? A loose or corroded connection can cause all sorts of weird readings and throw that code. Also, what are the specific codes you are getting? Knowing the exact code numbers might help narrow down the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the wiring as best as I could, didn't see any obvious damage or corrosion. The specific code is P0190, 'Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor A Circuit'. Does that shed any more light on the situation? I'm not sure where to go from here.

P0190, right. Yeah, that pretty much confirms the fuel rail pressure sensor is the culprit, or at least the signal from it is wonky. Given you've checked the wiring, it's likely the sensor itself is faulty. At this point, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed and replaced. Playing around with the fuel injection system without proper knowledge can be risky.

Appreciate the advice. I took it to a local workshop, and you were spot on. It was indeed the rail pressure sensor. They replaced it, and the total cost came to around 240€. Car's running smoothly again. Thanks for the help!
