Astra Oil Level Sensor Fault

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2015 Vauxhall Astra diesel. I keep getting an error message and a warning light in the speedometer – it says there's something wrong with the oil level. The oil pressure warning lamp sometimes lights up too, which is worrying. I've checked the error memory using a simple OBD2 scanner, and it's showing a 'oil level sensor signal faulty' error. The car has done 63940 km. Any ideas what could be causing this? I've had a quick look at the sensor and wiring, but everything seems ok visually.

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my Astra a while back. The oil level sensor can be a pain. Have you checked the connector that plugs into the sensor itself? Sometimes they can get corroded or the wires can become loose. The oil level sensor monitors the quantity of oil in the engine. It reports this to the car's computer (ECU), which then displays a warning if the level is too low. If the wiring is damaged, the sensor may report incorrect data, leading to the warnings you're seeing. Is the error message displayed all the time or intermittently?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I had a look at the connector, but it seemed okay at first glance. I'll definitely take a closer look for corrosion. By connector, you mean the plastic clip with wires that connects directly to the oil level sensor, right? And to answer your question, the error message is intermittent, appearing mostly after driving for a while.

Yes, that's the connector I meant. Intermittent issues can be tricky. The engine vibrations might be causing a loose connection to temporarily disconnect. Given that the error message comes and goes and you've checked the basics, it might be best to get it checked by a workshop. They can use more advanced diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact issue with the sensor or wiring harness. It might save you a lot of time and potential headaches.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I'll take it to a workshop and have them take a look. It's good to know that someone else has had a similar experience. The workshop confirmed it was a defective cable / plug connection and they replaced it for 95€. Hopefully, it's an easy fix. Thanks again for your help!
