Atos Transmission Oil Temperature Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Hyundai Atos owner experienced issues with the transmission oil temperature sensor, leading to engine light activation and erratic gearbox behavior, including slipping and rough shifting. The problem was identified as potentially caused by a low gearbox oil level. The suggested solution was to have the oil level checked and topped up by a professional, which resolved the issue after the sensor was replaced.

Thanks! Where exactly do I check the gearbox oil level? And what type of oil does the Atos use? I don't want to mess anything up.

Checking the gearbox oil level on an automatic transmission can be tricky and may require specific tools. As the problem may be a low oil level, I suggest you take your Atos to a workshop. They will be able to diagnose the issue properly and top up the oil if necessary. Continuing to drive with a faulty transmission can lead to serious damage.

Thanks so much for the advice! Turns out you were spot on. Took it to a shop, and the gearbox oil level was indeed too low, causing the sensor to go haywire. They topped it up and replaced the sensor. Total cost was 365€, but it's running smoothly again. Appreciate the help!

I had similar overheating problems with my Atos's automatic transmission. First thing: check your gearbox oil level. A low oil level can cause the sensor to trigger and the transmission to act erratically.
