Audi A1 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Failure Fix Guide
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a 2022 Audi A1 experiencing issues such as a check engine light, engine stalling when idling, and noticeable power loss. A diagnostic scan indicates a problem with the fuel rail pressure sensor. A similar case with an Audi A3 suggests that the issue is likely isolated to the sensor itself, which can be resolved by replacing it. The repair is expected to be straightforward, with no need for a complete fuel rail overhaul, and should restore normal engine performance.

Thanks for the helpful info. Following up on my original question, my A1 has 32445 KM and last service was done at the 30000 KM mark. The engine stalling started about 2 weeks ago, mostly when the engine is warm. I have noticed higher fuel consumption lately, about 15% more than usual. The check engine light started flashing right after the first time the engine stalled at a traffic stop. The rail pressure sensor diagnosis makes sense given these symptoms. Sounds like in your case the repair was relatively straightforward with just the sensor replacement. Hoping mine will be a similar fix without needing a complete fuel rail overhaul.

Thanks for providing those details. Based on your symptoms and what I experienced with my A3, this really does sound like the same rail pressure sensor issue I dealt with. The increased fuel consumption you mentioned actually aligns perfectly with my experience, I saw similar higher consumption before getting the repair done. When the pressure sensor signal is faulty, the engine control unit cant optimize fuel delivery properly, leading to that 10-15% increase youre seeing. Since your engine stalls mainly when warm, this further confirms my suspicion its the same problem. In my case, the sensor would send incorrect pressure readings especially after the engine reached operating temperature, causing similar warm-engine stalling. Given your recent service history and relatively low mileage, I highly doubt youll need a complete fuel rail replacement. The sensor signal issue is typically isolated and doesnt indicate wider fuel system problems. My repair was just the sensor unit itself, and engine performance returned to normal immediately after replacement. The cost should be similar to what I paid (240 Euro), assuming no other issues are found during diagnosis. Just make sure they clear all fuel system codes after the repair, this ensures the engine control unit relearns correct pressure values from the new sensor.

Thanks for all the detailed feedback. After hearing about your similar experience, I feel more confident about getting this fixed. The matching symptoms, especially the warm engine stalling and increased fuel consumption, really help confirm its likely just the pressure sensor. Your repair cost of 240 Euro gives me a good baseline for what to expect. My engine performance has definitely suffered from this faulty sensor signal, but its reassuring to know replacing the sensor restored normal operation in your case. I will schedule the repair this week and make sure they check the entire fuel injection system during diagnosis, just to be thorough. Good point about clearing the codes after repair, I will specifically ask them to do that to ensure proper fuel rail pressure monitoring with the new sensor. Really hoping this straightforward fix will resolve all the issues like it did in your case. Will probably follow up here after the repair to share how it went, in case others run into similar problems with their fuel pressure sensors in the future.

I had a very similar issue with my 2020 Audi A3 last winter. As someone who regularly maintains their own car but leaves complex repairs to professionals, I understand your concern. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I experienced, the check engine light, stalling issues, and significant power loss. The diagnostic system also indicated a fuel rail pressure sensor signal problem in my case. The repair process was straightforward. The pressure sensor on the fuel rail was indeed defective and needed replacement. No additional fuel system problems were found. Total repair cost was 240 Euro, including parts and labor. The workshop completed the work in about 2 hours. A failing pressure sensor can sometimes indicate other fuel system issues, but in most cases, its just the sensor itself. However, to provide more specific guidance for your situation, could you share: 1. Current mileage on your A1? 2. When did these symptoms first appear? 3. Have you noticed any unusual fuel consumption? 4. Does the engine stall more frequently when cold or warm? This information would help determine if your case is similar to what I experienced or if additional diagnostics might be needed.
