Audi A1 Speedometer Glitch: Reset Fix Guide

My 2020 Audi A1 shows errors in the speedometer display and error memory. A diagnostic scan suggests the system readiness check is incomplete. The car starts and runs but keeps showing these errors. Has anyone experienced similar issues? Particularly interested in required repair steps and whether a computer reset or specific drive cycle helped resolve the issue. Would appreciate hearing about repair costs and time needed at the workshop.

As someone with moderate car repair experience, I had a similar issue with my 2018 Audi A3. After a car diagnostics session, the vehicle inspection system also showed incomplete readiness codes and speedometer errors. The check engine system needed a specific drive cycle to complete its self-checks. This often happens after disconnecting the battery or clearing error codes. My workshop confirmed this through OBD2 diagnostics at no cost, as I had recently had a full system scan. To resolve it, I needed to: 1. Start with a warm engine 2. Drive steady at different speeds for about 20 minutes 3. Include some acceleration and deceleration phases 4. Complete several stop and go cycles The error messages cleared after completing this drive cycle properly. To help further with your specific case: Has your battery been recently disconnected? Were any repairs done before these errors appeared? Are you experiencing any actual performance issues? Which specific error codes are showing up? Also, make sure your exhaust system is working properly, as this can affect system readiness tests.

Last service completed at 45000km and currently showing 49758km on the odometer. After trying the suggested drive cycle process, my onboard diagnostics still indicate errors. The speedometer display continues showing inconsistent readings despite normal engine operation. The system throws the same readiness codes even after completing multiple drive cycles. Starting to wonder if this requires more than just a reset of the computer systems. Has anyone needed to replace sensor components to fix similar issues?

Having gone through this with my A3, I understand your frustration. After my initial drive cycle attempt failed to resolve the issue, I discovered the problem was more complex than just needing a system reset. The OBD readiness monitors kept failing because of a faulty speed sensor. The repair cost was 280 Euro for the part plus labor. The symptoms matched yours exactly, persistent speedometer errors despite completing multiple drive cycles. Before replacing the sensor, try these additional diagnostic steps that worked during my troubleshooting: 1. Clear all codes and wait 24 hours 2. Run a specific drive cycle focusing on maintaining steady speeds for longer periods 3. Check if speed readings match GPS readings If system readiness still fails after these steps, its likely hardware-related. In my case, the speed sensor replacement finally resolved both the speedometer inconsistencies and the incomplete readiness status. Since your mileage is similar to when I had this issue, it could be the same root cause. The car diagnostics should be able to pinpoint if its specifically the speed sensor. Worth having the workshop check the wiring harness connections first, as this is a much cheaper potential fix.

Thanks for the helpful details about your case. I checked with my workshop regarding the speed sensor replacement cost estimate, and they quoted 350 Euro for parts and labor combined. They also mentioned seeing several similar cases where the speed sensor was the culprit behind both speedometer errors and incomplete system readiness. Before booking the repair, I will try running another carefully monitored drive cycle tomorrow, making sure to follow all the required steps and proper engine temperatures. If the OBD readiness monitors still fail and the speedometer continues showing inconsistent readings, I will schedule the sensor replacement next week. Will update once I know if either the additional drive cycle testing or the sensor replacement resolves both the emissions test readiness and speedometer display issues. Need to get this fixed soon since my vehicle inspection is coming up next month.
