Audi A2 Fuel Sensor Failure Causing Multiple Issues

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had nearly identical problems with my A2 about 8 months ago. The car dashboard went crazy with the fuel gauge readings, and the engine would stall at the most inconvenient times. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed the fuel level sensor causing these issues. My car sensor needed complete replacement along with some wiring repairs in the fuel system. How much did the fix end up costing you? In my case, I had to get additional work done a few weeks later because some connectors were corroded. Just wondering if you experienced any follow-up issues since the initial repair?

Wanted to follow up on my earlier post. Got the sensor fault fixed about 6 months ago and the car has been running perfectly since then. The fuel gauge readings are now accurate and the stalling issues are completely resolved. The fix was surprisingly simple in my case, turned out to be a blown fuse causing the fuel level sensor malfunction. Total repair cost was 52 Euro for diagnostic work and fuse replacement. Much cheaper than I initially feared. The car dashboard displays are all working correctly now, and the fuel system is operating as it should. Unlike your situation, I didnt need any additional work on connectors or wiring, guess I was lucky there. No follow-up issues at all since the repair. The mechanic did mention its worth keeping an eye on the fuel gauge readings, as they can be an early warning sign if the sensor starts acting up again. But so far, everything in the fuel tank and sensor department has been working flawlessly.

After getting worried about those unusual stalls and weird fuel gauge readings, I finally took my A2 to a local garage last week. The mechanic diagnosed a failing fuel level sensor and some corroded wiring in the fuel system. Total repair came to 380 Euro, pricier than just a fuse but at least all the car electronics are working properly now. The fuel gauge shows correct readings again and no more stalling issues. The whole job took about 4 hours since they had to drop the fuel tank to access everything. Honestly, it was worth every cent just for the peace of mind. Much better than constantly worrying about getting stranded somewhere. Really glad I checked here first, helped me understand what I was dealing with and felt more confident talking to the mechanic about the repairs. No more check engine light either, so looks like everything is sorted.

Had similar issues with my Audi A3 1.8T from 2003. The symptoms match a faulty fuel level sensor, which is a common problem in these models. When the sensor starts failing, it causes incorrect fuel gauge readings and can trigger the check engine light. In my case, the fuel system was sending incorrect data to the engine control unit, causing irregular idle and stalling. The level sensor malfunction was making the ECU adjust the fuel mixture incorrectly. The sensor fault was confirmed with diagnostic testing. The repair involved accessing the fuel tank to replace the complete fuel pump assembly, as the level sensor is integrated into this unit. Its not a simple fix since the fuel tank needs to be dropped or accessed through the rear seat panel, depending on the specific model. This is considered a moderate to serious issue since it affects engine performance and can leave you stranded if not addressed. The stalling issue particularly makes it unsafe for daily driving. The sensor fault typically doesnt resolve itself and gets worse over time. Worth noting that sometimes the problem can be related to wiring or electrical connections rather than the sensor itself. A proper diagnosis with specialized equipment is necessary to pinpoint the exact cause.
